Turn Up The Heat!

A Winter Morning in the Life of a HVAC Service Tech

5:30 AM – Rise and Shine

The day begins early when you’re a Basin Service technician in Moses Lake. As I check the forecast, I see we’re in for another frigid Eastern Washington morning. Coffee in hand, I review my day’s schedule of heating system maintenance calls across the region.

6:45 AM – First Call in Ephrata

My service van is already stocked with essential parts and diagnostic tools. Our first stop is a commercial client experiencing inconsistent heating issues. These early morning calls are crucial for businesses that need their heating systems running before employees arrive.

9:00 AM – Emergency Call

Between scheduled appointments, dispatch radios in about a furnace failure at a residence in Othello. Winter emergencies take priority – nobody should be left in the cold. The problem turns out to be a failed igniter, something we fortunately carry in our standard inventory.

Key Tasks Throughout the Day:

  • Performing preventive maintenance checks
  • Testing system efficiency
  • Cleaning and replacing filters
  • Calibrating thermostats
  • Educating customers about system care

3:30 PM – Commercial HVAC Service

The afternoon involves a scheduled maintenance visit to a local business’s rooftop units. These regular checks help prevent costly breakdowns and ensure optimal performance during peak heating season.

5:00 PM – Wrapping Up

Before heading back to home base, I complete the day’s service documentation and prepare the van for tomorrow. In this industry, being prepared for the next day’s challenges is essential for providing reliable service across the Columbia Basin region.

Winter days are long but rewarding, knowing we’re helping keep our community warm and comfortable through the coldest months of the year.
